With Kratos’ most recent forays into Norse mythology being modern PlayStation’s high marks, we must acknowledge the foundations for God of War’s blend of cinematic set pieces, brutal combat, and masterful character development were well and truly laid during Kratos’ first saga on the PS2 and PS3. Battling humungous foes, scaling ancient megastructures; God of War 1 to 3 presented action in unprecedented size and scale. They’re rightly remembered as some of the greatest action-adventure games for this reason.
