Braid
There was a time when indie games were considered much, much lesser than they are today, but Jonathan Blow’s Braid was one of several titles that changed all that. It’s a 2D platformer with time travel mechanics, offering a unique twist on the concept at each level, whether it’s tying the passage of time to moving on the X-axis or creating a “shadow” that copies your movements. Throw in an incredible narrative with an utterly mind-blowing ending, and it’s easy to see why Braid is so well-regarded.
