It is set 1000 years in the future

One of the ideas that has probably immediately drawn so much positive attention towards Horizon: Zero Dawn is that of its setting. Sure, it is, after all is said and done, a post-apocalypse setting, but the way developers Guerrilla Games are using is what looks so intriguing. Horizon is set 1000 years into the future, and human civilization has long since abandoned the world after robotic dinosaur like creatures grew in power and essentially became the dominant species of the planet.

Even visually, the setting looks quite interesting- rather than giving us another dreary, barren and destroyed post apocalyptic world, the game is giving us an overgrown one where wild plants grow and the sun shines bright. It looks like quite an interesting setting, and given the fact that Fallout: New Vegas’ excellent lead writer John Gonzalez is involved with this game, we’re quite optimistic about how Guerrilla will make use of this setting.
