RPG mechanics a cross between Elder Scrolls and Assassin’s Creed
One thing most people wonder when they’re told that Horizon: Zero Dawn is going to be a full blown RPG is just what will the extent of depth of its RPG mechanics be? For example, Mass Effect games are technically considered to be RPGs, but they lean more toward the shooter genre in terms of mechanics. And given Guerrilla Games’ long history with shooters, there’s bound to be some skepticism. Props to Guerrilla, though, for coming out and answering this exact question.
The game is said to have proper, in-depth RPG mechanics, but on a spectrum where on one end there are more action-oriented games like Assassin’s Creed and games such as Elder Scrolls on the other end, Guerrilla reckons that Horizon falls somewhere in the middle. It will be interesting to see how they manage to juggle aspects of both those kinds of games. The game’s going to have a proper perk system, customization, crafting and XP points and leveling up, so it seems safe to say that it’s going to be proper RPG.
