SONY’S RIGID CROSS-PLAY STANCE

Cross-play has become a hot topic in the industry of late. Microsoft and Sony both openly became proponents of cross-platform play, but Sony rigidly stood by their stance that it wasn’t something they were going to allow. Several developers, from Chucklefish to Hi-Rez Studios to Gaijin Entertainment, publicly came out to criticize Sony’s practices. After a ton of pushback in the industry and a great deal of demand from consumers, it seems like things are starting to get better. Games like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Dauntless all support full cross-play, while later this year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to do the same.
