Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Several years, tens of millions of dollars, and the development of the Fox Engine eventually delivered Kojima Productions’ vision for next-gen stealth. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain may have slipped narratively in some places, but the gameplay mechanics and visual fidelity are undeniable. Everything about the character models, from their animation and details, was superb.

The lighting and environmental textures were excellent, as were the effects, object transparency and draw distance. All of this, and yet the title still delivered a solid 60 FPS on Xbox One and PS4 at 1080p. It was insane to witness, much like director Hideo Kojima’s vision, but still beautiful.
