Red Faction: Guerrilla
The first Red Faction saw Volition pushing the limits of environment-based destruction within first-person shooters. Red Faction: Guerrilla, by comparison, is a third-person open-world title where players control Alec Mason as he rebelled against the Earth Defense Force (yes, the EDF) on Mars. Though it didn’t have terrain destruction, you could still level buildings and structures and then use the remaining salvage for upgrades.
The morale system added a bit of spice as you explored Mars, fighting alongside other resistance members to liberate each region. Even if its open-world design wasn’t revolutionary, Red Faction: Guerrilla was still a rollicking good time with perhaps the best sledgehammer in gaming.
