Nishiki’s Redemption – Yakuza 1
Akira Nishikiyama is supposed to be Kiryu’s best friend. Heck, Kiryu took the fall for Sohei Dojima’s death and spent years in prison. You’d think Nishiki would be grateful but he proceeds to shoot Kiryu when he’s out and trying to find his missing best friend Yumi. Even in the final battle when Kiryu had fought off Jingu and the Omi Alliance, Nishiki wants to fight him and take the money for himself. So when Yumi is ultimately shot by Jingu and Nishiki stabs the latter, you know it’s not just for revenge. “The responsibility is mine, let me do this” says Nishiki as he ultimately destroys the money, Jingu and himself in an explosion, garnering some redemption for his actions.
