Gehrman’s Freedom – Bloodborne
Summarizing the trials of Gehrman, the First Hunter reveals just how sad his life was. When the scourge had spread and Lady Maria went missing, Gehrman made a contract with a Great One to create the Doll and the Hunter’s Dream. However, Gehrman was forever bound to the Dream and would even cry out in his sleep to be freed. So when you finally defeat him, irrespective of whether you fight the Moon Presence or not, his words, “The night and the dream…were long” symbolizes his freedom from what was essentially his prison. And perhaps there some comfort, knowing that he could be reunited with Maria in the afterlife.
