STRIDER HIRYU (STRIDER)

Strider was quite a popular arcade game back in the day, but do you know how Hiryu got his ninja-like parkour skills? He got them thanks to a bizarre incident on the roof of Capcom’s building in the middle of 1988’s winter. Kouichi Yotsui, the conceptualizer for the game, found himself stuck on the aforementioned roof one cold freezing night. With no way to communicate with anyone or get help to open the door, Yotsui started climbing down the side of the building to get to the fire escape. Yes, it was quite a foolish move, but look at the bright side- he didn’t get hurt, and the incident spurred him on to turn Hiryu into the athletic ninja we know him as.
