Death Stranding
After Kojima’s breakout with Konami, the Metal Gear Solid creator birthed his own independent studio in the form of Kojima Productions. True to his fashion, Kojima sought to create a new type of game, one where the main objectives are primarily completed through social interactions between players which he called a strand type game. Death Stranding was Kojima’s first strand game, which was a very risky venture from the onset because it was a AAA game that revolved around going from point A to point B to deliver packages.
Sure, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea – and many don’t resonate with this new style of gameplay that’s more laid back than a typical action adventure game. But there’s little argument to be had that Death Stranding is a unique experience that’s tightly designed and presents a gripping story about the importance of communities in the development of the human race. It’s a strong foundation of ideas for tons of different kinds of games, and we are already seeing new strand type games being announced for the near future – including but not limited to Death Stranding 2.
