Half-Life: Alyx
The Half-Life series is considered to be one of the most influential games of recent memory, and countless fans have been waiting with bated breath for the mysterious video game that is Half-Life 3 for all these years. As such, any game set within the same universe would have to surpass intense expectations from fans of the franchise – and for Valve to come out and announce Half-Life: Alyx was a pretty bold move on its own. It was also a very risky move as well, because Half-Life: Alyx would be a VR only game instead of a traditional release. Prior to Half-Life: Alyx, there weren’t many games on the platform that could compete with their full fledged console counterparts for a multitude of reasons – which sparked flames of skepticism that Alyx would be an inferior game that couldn’t stand up to the legacy of its predecessors.
But Valve not only delivered one of the best VR games Half-Life: Alyx, it also delivered a game that was worthy of all the years of anticipation that fans of the franchise had been holding for so long. It’s a bold game that serves to showcase the sheer potential of the VR medium, and looking back – there are so many ways this project could go horribly wrong. Despite the developer’s roughly decade-long hiatus from game development, Half-Life: Alyx proved why Valve is considered to be one of the best names in the business.
