Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
While Resident Evil is one of the biggest names in survival horror, the franchise’s reputation has been far from uniform throughout its lifespan. After the disastrous critical reception of Resident Evil 6, the franchise had arguably hit rock bottom- and Capcom needed to address those criticisms with the next entry in the franchise. And while Resident Evil 7: Biohazard ended up being a smash hit, it was far from a sure shot success.
Capcom took a huge risk by grounding themselves in horror, and switching perspectives from a third-person camera to a first person could have also disappointed longtime fans. But Resident Evil 7 delivered on its promise of being a back to roots survival horror adventure, and has been paramount in reinvigorating the interest of countless fans within this franchise.
