DEBT COLLECTIONS (RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2)
Choices in Red Dead Redemption 2 aren’t the kind that can hugely alter the story the game wants to tell, but they’re ones that can lend incredible weight. The perfect illustration of that is the game’s debt collection missions- throughout the game, Arthur is told by the gang’s loan shark, Leopold Strauss, to collect debts from people he had lent money to. On paper that sounds like the most trite setup ever, but it is actually what leads to Arthur contracting a deadly disease. And while that isn’t something that can be changed through choices, later on in debt collection missions, Arthur, who now knows he’s going to be dead soon, can either choose to act out of kindness, or be a greedy loanshark and retrieve his money regardless of the cost. The decisions he makes can colour the tone and nature of the story and his final personal struggles immensely.
