Starcraft Ghost
One of Blizzard’s most infamous cancelled projects, Starcraft Ghost was announced in 2002 as a third person stealth shooter focusing on a Terran Ghost named Nova. Developed by Nihilistic Software and set four years after the events of Brood War, it was being developed for the OG Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube. Unfortunately, it suffered one delay after another – Nihilistic would eventually drop out and Swingin’ Ape Studios was in charge by 2004.
Following the GameCube version’s cancellation in 2005, the title was put on “indefinite hold” in 2006. It would then remain in that state before being cancelled altogether in 2014. Footage leaked in 2020, showcasing the different levels and gameplay and confirming that it did indeed exist in playable form at some point. The concept of a stealth title focused on the Terran Ghosts still holds appeal, especially with the dearth of Splinter Cell-esque games over the years, but whether Microsoft deems it worth reviving remains to be seen. It would be nice for StarCraft fans though.
