While you’re technically playing as a Trainer in the mainline Pokemon games, the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon line of games lets you play as actual Pokemon. Getting to move around as these iconic pocket monsters and use their attacks in combat makes for a very different experience from what you’d ordinarily expect in a Pokemon game, but it can be surprisingly fun- even though structurally, the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games can often feel a bit too repetitive.
