14. Do away with linear gameplay
This is where Black Ops II comes in. The game had provided optional missions in between the campaigns main missions to let players enjoy a little bit. Players had the option of doing the mission completely at their leisure, or not bothering with them at all.
This was criticised by many for not being a really appealing feature but it did serve to somewhat diminish the linear gameplay that CoD games have often . It may not be the best of features but I see great potential in offering players a choice in what they want to do. Needless to say, we don not want a Skyrim-esque world, but something more exciting, by means of putting secret weapons caches or bonus perks. Again, something that Black Ops II had had, even if rather poorly implemented.
