10. Make the story more involving
Ghosts hadn’t struck the right chord with the story line. The direction the game’s story took wasn’t bad per se, but it utterly failed to spark the inquisitiveness in gamers to pay attention to the story as it moved along. Instead, it was left to be a mindless shooter of sorts. The earlier games had held an appeal because the showed the war and its different facets from a multitude of perspectives. Why Ghosts failed in this respect was because the story in the game had seemed to have evolved from personal enmity.
It was too focussed on individuals and failed to grasp the larger and truly gruesome aspect of war. The next CoD should again take into consideration why such a simplistic game as CoD 2 was so widely loved. The only way it made players associate with the characters was by briefing the players about the forthcoming missions, written in the hand of the characters they played. A simple thing as that had a great impact on the players and that’s the reason why I remember Bill Taylor fondly while referring to Ghosts’ protagonist’s brother as ‘muscular hash-tag’.
