9. Compelling villains
Again, I have to mention personal enmity and its horrendous impact on the last Cod title. After learning about Rorke’s(Ghosts’ antagonist) reasons to hunt and kill Ghosts(US Spcl. Ops. Squad), I couldn’t help but chuckle. It was like watching Iron Man 3 all over again when you learn the Mandarin’s reason to kill Stark. I was expecting Rorke to say “Nah! I’m just kidding. That’s not why I want to kill you. It’s because…” something or the other.
What my point is, everyone from Zakhaev to Shepherd to Makarov had some kind of enmity with someone, but that never deterred the plot from going to random directions while we gnawed our inner lips listening to surly senseless speeches from a misanthrope troglodyte. The next CoD needn’t focus so intensely on the personal lives of characters, especially villains or make the stupidest of reasons to justify their causes.
