THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BOY
It still surprises us that The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was as good as it was (which can also be said about Assault on Dark Athena, if not to the same extent). As a prequel tie-in to a film, you wouldn’t expect it to go anything other than the bare minimum, but Escape from Butcher Bay was a legitimately great game. It had excellent stealth mechanics, tight combat, solid melee sections, and it combined all of that in a consistently thrilling campaign. It also looked great- great enough, in fact, to be one of the better looking games around when it came out, with the kind of attention to detail that wasn’t common in games at the time.
