Valve was one of the first games to combine a meaningful story and physics-based puzzles within the framework of a first-person shooter, which is what made Half-Life such a big deal in the 90s. Black Mesa is a Valve-approved fan remake of Half-Life that was finally released in 2020, and it’s definitely the best way to experience this classic all over again. Visuals have been redone completely in a new engine, and the gameplay has been smoothed out to placate modern audiences. There are plenty of quality-of-life improvements that long-time fans might be able to notice. It’s a pretty solid game overall that you should definitely try out.
