System Shock Remake
Long development cycles for projects are nothing new in the gaming industry, but they can sometimes fail. Nightdive Studios’ System Shock, a remake based on Looking Glass Studios’ beloved immersive sim (which wrote the book on the genre), seemed poised for the same between reboots, delays, engine switches, and whatnot. Fortunately, the results were far better than expected, with the revamped visuals successfully capturing the original’s aesthetic. Improvements to the UI and controls also made it more approachable for newcomers without diminishing the tense cyberpunk atmosphere.
