Pioneers of tactical espionage action are the first three 3D Metal Gear Solid games, and their recreation here for Master Collection Vol. 1 alongside Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is extremely faithful, but their authenticity presents glaring faults which have left a sour taste in the mouths of diehard fans regardless of the handful of extras like master books and scripts. Principal in this disappointment are the game’s low resolutions and framerates which have been faultlessly duplicated – a huge, missed opportunity for Konami to bring these games bang up to date. Still, these are iconic titles, and Vol. 1 is the best way to play them on modern hardware if you haven’t already.
