The Godfather: The Game
At first glance, the premise of working for the Corleone family in mid-1940s Little Italy doesn’t sound too bad. However, it doesn’t truly capture the essence of the films, instead using it as a means to shoehorn a typical revenge story for the sake of yet another GTA clone. You’ll venture around the city, beat up civilians, hijack vehicles, shoot cops and so on. The shooting and melee mechanics sound intriguing while the Extortion system offers a neat little mini-game for shaking down money from business owners. But the latter becomes repetitive overtime along with having to shake off any heat or progressing one’s rank through the criminal underworld. Plus the story just doesn’t hold a candle to the film, much less to Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City or San Andreas. While perhaps not the worst overall game on this list, it still stands as a poor clone of GTA.
