Miyamoto talks about third-party games, wants developers to use unique features of Wii U

"Each developer has his or her own ideas and we really encourage the differences."

Which platform holder doesn’t want to stand out from the rest? We have Miyamoto, who is a genius and has created unique games over the years, but third-party developers won’t do the same until they have an incentive to put in the extra effort. Sure, I am not generalizing here but this seems to be the case in the gaming industry.

Nintendo’s Wii U boasts a lot of unique features like the gamepad which can display games on its own without needing the TV, and a bunch of other motion sensing features, which you probably saw in Ubisoft’s latest game ZombiU.

Here’s what Miyamoto had to say in an interview with the Guardian:

“It’s a matter of how seriously they commit themselves. Our mission is to approach developers, and if they’re willing to commit to experiences only available on Nintendo hardware, we are more willing to help. Each developer has his or her own ideas and we really encourage the differences,” he revealed.

He also revealed how he was trapped in an elevator in Spain when he had a royal appointment. The door actually had to be broken open with a crowbar before he was set free.

“…on a recent trip to Spain, he’d been due to meet two members of the royal family, but owing to a door lock malfunction, was instead imprisoned in a hotel bathroom. Under increasing pressure to free him, someone eventually hacked down the door with a crowbar before a police escort whisked him, sirens blaring, to his royal appointment.”

That must have been really annoying for him and a bit scary too.

Thanks, GoNintendo.
