As the rumours have it, Take Two Interactive confirmed that it has taken up the WWE license from THQ after it went bankrupt. This means that Japanese developer Yuke’s will develop the games and Take Two will publish them.
Speaking to Polygon, the publisher stated that, “We can confirm that we have entered into an agreement to publish the WWE video game series that is developed by Yukes [sic].
“At this time, the agreement is pending court approval and we anticipate that it will be finalized shortly. We are very excited about the potential of this agreement and will have more to share at the appropriate time.”
Other factors, including WWE’s claim of $45 million against THQ have been waived; the publisher will now pay the company $650,000 in royalties for any games sold during bankruptcy. Take Two will also receive equipment, software and assets related from THQ for development, though it’s not revealed for how much.
The publisher will also hire 20 employees from THQ’s staff for the sole purpose of WWE games production.
