Mark Cerny: PC to PlayStation 4 Ports Will Take “Weeks, Not Months”

PlayStation 4 lead system architect Mark Cerny talked about how the launch line-up would be the strongest yet for a PlayStation console.

However, he stated that “if your timeframe is 2015, by another way of thinking, you really need to be doing that customization, because your competition will be doing that customization.”

He hence talked about being able to port games engines from the PC to PlayStation 4 in “weeks, not months”. This will allow developers to really dig into what the console has to offer in terms of computing.

“There are many, many ways to control how the resources within the GPU are allocated between graphics and compute. Of course, what you can do, and what most launch titles will do, is allocate all of the resources to graphics.

“And that’s perfectly fine, that’s great. It’s just that the vision is that by the middle of the console lifecycle, that there’s a bit more going on with compute,” he said to Gamasutra

The PlayStation 4 is being praised a lot of by the developers and has gained quite a traction among the gaming community and fellow press. Recently Witcher 3 developer called the PS4 a high end PC and Avalanche Studios famously stating that it will over power gaming PCs for a long time to come.

The PlayStation 4 is currently set to release during the Holiday season.
