Tearaway Gameplay Trailer Reveals PS Vita’s Rear Touchpad Controls

The rain! The rain!

Media Molecule released a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming 3D platformer Tearaway, which will reportedly launch in October this year for PlayStation Vita. The trailer showcases the game’s simple yet astonishing art-style along with some of the platforming mechanics that make use of the Vita’s rear touchpad.

The way it’s showcased is brilliant in itself: Players can tap the rear touchpad for drum-like platforms, thus causing Iota/Atoi to jump. The platforms act as a spring, but their secondary function in the form of drums is to showcase how to time your leaps in accordance to the sound.

The game itself looks even better than when we last saw it. Stop-motion paper animation coincides with beautiful 3D graphics (look at the rain and be hypnotized), which mesh well with the cartoonish entities and simplistic art design. If this was a small taste of the Vita features that Tearaway uses, we look forward to more gameplay footage.
