The Last of Us has received rave reviews and along with Bioshock Infinite, has put itself in the running for Game of the Year. According to creative director Neil Druckmann on the PlayStation Blog though, there’s still plenty of narrative and plot in the universe.

“I think the world is ripe for more stories, but as far as the journey Joel and Ellie goes on it ends with this game. We were very conscious that we didn’t want to leave this story dangling. If we never do a sequel we’re OK with it, because we told the story we needed to tell,” said Druckmann.

He also noted that a lot of ambigiuousness that surrounds finer details like the disease of the Infected and fall of humanity was intentionally left that way. “A lot of that stuff is in the background and we’re very conscious of keeping it there. Because that’s not what the story is about. It’s about these two characters and the journey they go on.”

The Last of Us is set to release on the PlayStation 3 on June 14th.
