Jack Tretton returned to the stage at Sony’s E3 press conference to announce that the PlayStation 4 would not support any DRM for the console. Also you won’t need an online connection or even be connected online at all to play disc-based PS4 games.

The console also won’t have any used game restrictions. Consumers can do whatever they want with the disc when they purchase it, which means they can trade it at retail, sell it to some one else, lend it to friends, etc. It’s their property and they have a right to it.

Tretton stated that, “We believe in the model that people embrace today.” And needless to say, the crowd loved it.

Of course, if that wasn’t specific enough for you on what the PS4 won’t be doing in terms of connectivity in the name of security or whatever nonsense, the latest tweets from the PlayStation Twitter should clear that up enough.

They also make mention of PlayStation Plus membership carrying over from the PS3 to PS4.

Give credit to Sony: They floundered in the beginning but are bringing it home.
