Jack Trettton On PS4 Used Game Policy: ‘If It Isn’t Broke, Why Try To Fix It?’

The most powerful next gen console at a tremendous price point.

Sony literally caught everyone off guard by announcing the price point for the PlayStation 4 last week. Selling the most powerful next gen console a full $100 less compared to your competitor and without any draconian DRM policy led to perhaps the greatest E3 ovation ever by the audience.

President and CEO of SCEA Jack Tretton shared his thoughts on the PlayStation 4’s used game policy and its appealing price point. He thinks that this is what consumers wanted and is a model that works well for them.

“We listen to our consumers. We value our relationship with them above anything else. I think this generation we did a better job listening to our consumers, finding out what is important to them and also to the development community by putting the tools in their hands and the end result to that is beautiful: The PlayStation 4.

“And we know that consumers value the right to choose to what they do with their games and if it isn’t broke, why try to fix it,” he said.

“It’s a tremendous value and we are going to sell more PlayStation 4s during the holiday season than any of our previous generations. It’s a tremendous price point, the most powerful machine ever made and it’s going to have an unbelievable line up of games,” he said to PlayStation.

Sony are certainly taking the right steps with the PlayStation 4, something they have learnt from in recent years with the PlayStation 3. Microsoft’s Xbox One on the other hand is in a cloud of confusion which doesn’t look to be clearing any time soon.
