The Xbox One's DRM fiasco also helped, naturally.

PlayStation software product development head Sony Worldwide Studios America Scott Rohde has been following the whole used games and DRM fiasco (but then, who hasn’t?) that Microsoft has been flailing under. Recently speaking to Polygon, Rohde responded to criticism against the same policies, how they would affect publishers’ decisions to include the same on PlayStation 4 and how the ovation at E3 during Sony’s presser was the rallying cry.

“All those publishers were sitting in [our] press conference last night. When Jack [Tretton], punch after punch after punch, and the house almost came down with all the cheers, they heard that. They heard it loud and clear and they saw the reaction to what our friends in green talked about. I think it’s pretty clear that we’ve set a nice precedent.”

Also, in reference to Tretton’s statements about publisher’s being allowed to make their own DRM policies, Rhode stated that this was simply to get the message out there. “Quite frankly it would be pretty surprising to me to see a third party come up with some way to set a new set of DRM rules that were able to act on top of that.”
