The Microsoft Xbox One PR nightmare continues. While Microsoft Games Studio head Phil Spencer proclaimed that the Xbox One was three times more powerful the Xbox 360 last night on Jimmy Fallon, it caused some confusion. After all, didn’t Microsoft mention not too long ago that it was equal to the power of ten Xbox 360 consoles?
Well, Spencer took to clarifying this on Twitter.
@JuanCabrera It was a mistake, 8x is the right number. I just messed up the line.

So the Xbox One is actually eight times more powerful the Xbox 360? This is where things just go downhill as Spencer then clarifies that it’s actually 10 times more powerful and “for purely local compute functions closer to 10x + Cloud”.
@skidoo800R I made a mistake.

@skidoo800R Depends on exactly what you are doing with the system. For purely local compute functions closer to 10x + Cloud.

But it is confirmed to be ten times more powerful. For now, that is.
@skidoo800R Cloud gives more, cloud really depends on game. Dedicated servers, async compute etc. gives devs more options. 10x is local.

It’s already been pointed out that Microsoft is completely lost with its PR for the Xbox One, with key issues like the concurrent usage under the Family Policy unknown, privacy issues, Don Mattrick and many other problems. The Head of Microsoft Games Studio not even knowing what’s what only compounds the problem further. Stay tuned for more.
