Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Returns To Include A ‘Hard Mode’ For Advanced Gamers

Game designer Yuki Abe reveals some interesting new details about the game.

Lightning Returns, the third installment in the Final Fantasy Thirteen universe, will include some brand new features not seen in the previous FF XIII titles, including the inclusion of a ‘hard mode’ for more daring players.

In a recent interview with Dangeki Online, game designer Yuki Abe shed some light on the details of the upcoming RPG. In addition to revealing some major plot points, Abe shares some of the specifics of the new battle and character enhancement systems, specifically a new aspect called Energy Points. Energy Points can be accrued through battle and used to stop time mid-fight or teleport to other areas on the world map.

According to Abe, the game is hard enough on the first normal playthrough, with dungeons and enemies having a full range of difficulties that the player will encounter on their own.

It appears as though the increased difficulty option is less of a “this game is too easy” reaction and more of a “if I can pull this off I will be legendary” challenge.

Will you play Lightning Returns on hard mode?
