Predictions, especially in the gaming industry, are a risky business. Consider this year’s Gamescom, taking place in Cologne from August 21st to 25th, where many “exciting” announcements are expected from Sony. This is considerably different from the mood at E3 2013 when we knew there would be several exclusives announced.

However, considering that we’re mere months away from the PlayStation 4’s release, anything seems possible. Do we think “Helldivers”, recently trademarked by Sony, will be showcased? We don’t expect it to not to, but here are our top 10 picks for what Sony will likely announce at this year’s Gamescom.

10. PlayStation Vita Price Drop

We’ve already heard of a price drop in select retail outlets in the United States. Given that neither the announcement of several games releasing for the Vita, Remote Play for PS4 games nor the release of high-profile exclusives has done much to increase sales, one wonders if a price drop is the next logical option. Regardless, it will help make the handheld more competitive with the 3DS.

9. More PlayStation Plus Free Games

Sony has already announced that it will release a modified version of DriveClub that will be available for free on PlayStation Plus. This allows players to try out the game and decide whether it’s worth a full purchase. Want to bet that Sony announces other such games that follow the same format? Of course, Sony won’t want to cheapen its launch line-up by offering everything potentially for free on PS Plus. But it’d be odd if there wasn’t at least one line about more such games being planned for the future.

8. David Cage’s Next Game

For some one who has a high profile, AAA PlayStation 3 title due soon in Beyond: Two Souls, David Cage hasn’t exactly been hogging headlines as of late. After showcasing The Dark Sorcerer at E3, we fully expect Cage to share more details about the project – whatever it is – at this year’s Gamescom. For that matter, we wouldn’t be surprised if he announced that Beyond: Two Souls would be heading to PlayStation 4 sometime in the future.
