7. Naughty Dog: Uncharted 4 or The Last of Us 2?
After the success of The Last of Us, the world has been clamouring to know what Naughty Dog is working on next. Uncharted 4 for PlayStation 4? A new Uncharted game for the PlayStation Vita? A sequel or spin-off to The Last of Us? Heck, DLC for The Last of Us? Anything seems possible at this point, but we’d hedge our bets on Nathan Drake figuring prominently into this year’s Gamescom announcements.
6. PS3 and PS2 Backwards Compatibility via Gaikai
One of the PlayStation 4’s much touted features is Cloud computing via Gaikai. This will allow the console many benefits, but it will also allow it backwards compatibility to PlayStation 3 games. Sony has been rather mum on just how that’s going to work since revealing the PS4 back in February. Gamescom could help shed more light on the subject, as the company announces the system it will go with to make backwards compatibility possible. Hopefully, it won’t mean any extra costs for those who have recently purchased the games.
5. PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 Bundle
A rumour, yes, but considering that Sony wants to help revitalize the Vita with its new Remote Play feature for the PS4, it wouldn’t be remiss for the company to announce a bundle for the two at this year’s Gamescom. Will it retail for $500? That seems unlikely, but not impossible – just how Sony would pull it off is beyond us (unless they sell each Vita at a loss).
4. Cory Barlog and SCE Santa Monica’s Next
The director finally made his way back to SCE Santa Monica after leaving in 2007. All we know is that Barlog is putting together a development team to work on a new game. SCE Santa Monica is already busy working on The Order: 1886 with Ready At Dawn, so the only real conclusion would be that this is a new game. However, it will most likely be a new IP but an announcement at Gamescom sounds too good to pass up.
