The Elder Scrolls Online Features Micro-transactions for Non-Core Game Items

Not sure whether to lower pitchfork or raise it higher.

The Elder Scrolls Online will have some form of micro-transactions it seems, according to a new interview with director Matt Firor. Speaking to AusGamers, Firor revealed that “there won’t be anything like bonus points, but we will have a shop to buy kind of fun stuff and services too like name changes and things like that.”

For those who are already groaning – and keep in mind that the game operates on a traditional subscription model – don’t worry. These items won’t be “part of the core game, anything included in the core game is included in the subscription price.”

Which is somewhat commendable, but considering that most of online titles have already gone the free to play route – PlanetSide 2, War Thunder, Warframe, EverQuest Next and many more – one wonders if the combination of a paid subscription and micro-transactions will jive very well with consumers.

We’ll find out how it works when The Elder Scrolls Online releases in Q1 2014 for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Mac.
