Sources Claim PS4 Is ‘Noticeably Faster’ Than Xbox One

Developers speak about how PS4 outshines the Xbox One.

Development sources have made the claim that the PS4 is noticeably faster than the Xbox One. Even in the wake of Microsoft’s recent sprint to close the development gap, these sources say that the PS4’s memory reads 40-50% faster than that of the Xbox One’s, and that the ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) of the PS4 is about 50% faster.

The developers also spoke to some other elements in which the PS4 is superior:

“One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One.”

“Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM.”

Despite the recent Microsoft announcement that the Xbox One’s CPU has been increased from 1.6 GHz to 1.75 GHz, one developer claimed the improvement shows very little:

“The clock speed update is not significant, it does not change things that much. Of course, something is better than nothing.”

However, not all developers were completely negative about the Xbox One. One developer said that the Xbox One does offer some computational advantages:

“Let’s say you are using procedural generation or raytracing via parametric surfaces – that is, using a lot of memory writes and not much texturing or ALU – Xbox One will be likely be faster.”

Still, it does seem that the general consensus from these anonymous development sources is that the PS4 is the superior machine.

Will this affect your decision on which way to go?
