Microsoft has been hyping up the OS and UI of its upcoming Xbox One console, and one really important factor for any OS is its boot up time. Traditionally, consoles used to boot up without any delay, but as time went on, and they got more and more complicated, boot up times became longer. With the Xbox One, Microsoft appears to be going back to the basics, as the Xbox One boot up time is allegedly insanely short.
“Standby is the mode we’d like to see people in, obviously, so you get back to gaming or watching TV really quick. From standby, it’s likely the Xbox will be on before the TV is completely powered up,” said Microsoft’s Albert Penello, explaining the three power states the console has: On, Off, and Standby.
Using the Standby Mode as a low power mode to keep your console in to allow for quick bootup times and background interactions with the internet is something all console manufacturers have been trying to achieve for a while now, notably Nintendo with Wii and WiiConnect24, the 3DS and StreetPass/SpotPass, and Wii U, with Miiverse. The Xbox One seems to be the latest console to join the bandwagon.
