PS4: This What The Inside of The Console Looks Like

PS4 blood n' guts on display.

In a video uploaded by Wired earlier today, we are given an in-depth look at the preverbal blood and guts of the upcoming next generation console, the PlayStation 4. It’s a trend among self proclaimed savvy gamers to immediately disassemble immediately after it’s release. Well, Sony’s decided to ruin some of the mystery for those interested souls.

In this video, PlayStation 4 directing of engineering, Yasuhiro Ootori walks us through his step by step dis-assembly of the PS4, providing explanation for the various bells and whistles along the way.

Off the bat we are told that not only are there no visible screws from the front or sides of the system, but the screws at the back – the only way to get access to the insides of the console – are covered by seals which discourage gamers from taking their systems apart. According to Ootori, it will be very noticeable if these seals have been tampered with.

Once inside, we are treated to views of the fan, heat sink, disc tray, and all of the other guts on the immediate inside of the console. The system comes with a 500 GB hard drive, which we are shown how to access. Hard driver replacement is not uncommon in the gaming community, and especially with the prevalence of digital downloading in gaming, we can expect to see more of it than ever.

It’s unclear if this video is an attempt to dissuade gamers from disassembling the system itself, or purely meant to be informative. Either way, we appreciate the full disclosure from Sony.
