Toyo Keizai runs a Corporate Power Ranking list for Japan in which it grades different companies based on profitability, safety, growth and scale, awards them a score from 500 to 1000 for each category, and then ranks the top 2000 companies accordingly. The most recent edition of the Power Ranking list has been revealed and it seems that Namco Bandai has emerged as the most powerful gaming company in Japan.

It’s currently at 126th place in the list (last year’s position being 442nd), and is followed by Sony at 292nd (163rd place last year), Capcom at 318th (701st last year) and Konami at 567th (last year’s position being 355th).

While each company has seen their ups and down – with smaller studios like Broccoli emerging at 157th place despite not having ranked last year – it’s Nintendo that currently ranks as the least powerful gaming company in Japan. It occupies the 1647th position, following more than 1400 places from its spot last year at 219th due to the poor performance of the Wii U. While it scored almost perfectly on safety, profitability and growth were just terrible.

This follows the news of Nintendo’s projected $335 million loss in recent financial reports and an 18 percent drop in shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. What are your thoughts on Nintendo’s fortunes? Let us know below.
