This Oculus Rift Peripheral Makes FPSs Incredibly Immersive

It looks dorky but amazing. Like all good things in life.

Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset coming sometime… soon… keeps getting awesomer and awesomer, with more and more PC games announced to be supporting it, and industry figures such as John Carmack (a.k.a. the father of modern PC gaming in a lot of ways) himself ditching id Software to join the guys at Oculus.

Now, Los Angeles-based product developer Chris Gallizzi has developed an early prototype for a gun peripheral to be used alongside the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, and it looks absolutely amazing- it could make first person shooter games scarily immersive. And lead to more media scares blaming video games every time something bad happened.

On his Youtube page, which you can access by clicking the Youtube link on the video above, Gallizzi says, “This is an early body build that was 3d printed and using a pre-alpha script to send data via bluetooth. We visited a local Play N’ Trade to see what the store owner thought and let the public give us feedback on the gun and functionality.”

Gallizzi has lots of experience messing around with Oculus Rift before this as well- for example, he brought Oculus Rift support to The Elder Scrolls Online.

It will be worth seeing if this peripheral gains ground as an officially licensed accessory.
