DayZ creator Dean Hall was recently on stage at EGX Rezzed 2014, and he talked about several things, including the up to date sales figured of the title, its future planned updates and Bohemia’s acquisition of another development team.
Hall announced that DayZ‘s ArmA II mod had shifted more than 2 million copies and that the standalone version of the game has, till date, sold 1.7 million units. Hall then went on to announce that Bohema Interactive had acquired Cauldron Studios, a new development team, and that it has been renamed Bohemia Interactive Slovakia. 25 people in this team will always be working on DayZ.
Hall spent the rest of his talk talking about his planned roadmap for future updates for DayZ over the next one year. He said that the first update would be out by April end- within two weeks, in fact, if development went smoothly and everything went right. The update will include fireplaces to cook food, which will be upgradable to ovens for baking bread, a crossbow, and a respawn system for loot.
Hall also talked about potentially adding AK47s, more animals and a lot more features to the game with upcoming updates, while also tweaking and fixing anything in the game that needs to be tweaked or fixed, such as improved AI and better vehicle physics.
Physics integration with yourself and zombies will also come into play, as will more weapons, storage units (refrigerators, overs, cupboards etc.) and more animals for you to hunt.
