Watch Dogs Won’t Have A Jump Button

Parkour will be contextual like in Assassin's Creed.

Watch Dogs, it seems, is taking a lot of cues from Ubisoft’s previous successful franchises, and it looks like it’s taking a leaf out of Assassin’s Creed’s book as well. Just like in Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs will not have a specific button command that will prompt the character to jump; rather the parkour in the game will be contextual- animation director Colin Graham confirmed via a series of tweets.

When asked if there will be a jump button in the game, Graham said, “It’s contextual, no need to press a jump button.”

“A jump button isn’t necessary since Aiden will jump and climb it automatically,” Graham explained later. “Parkour involves seeing one’s environment in a new way, imagining the potentialities for movement around it.”

“You have so many more things to focus on while playing than a jump button,” he continued. “Watch_Dogs is designed with no jump button needed. You’re free to focus on other things like hacking. One button on the controller does all the interactions automatically.”

When some people posed their skepticism and doubt towards this gameplay decision, he said, “Maybe you will feel different when you play the game.”

“When you play the game I think you will see is the right choice,” he added.

Watch Dogs is out in May for the Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with a Wii U version due out at a later, unspecified date. Stay tuned for more coverage.
