Over 6 Million Games of Destiny Were Played During the PS4 Alpha

'The alpha lit a fire here at Bungie.'

29. Destiny

Destiny was playable exclusively on PlayStation before it was playable anywhere else, when Bungie’s shooter went into ‘alpha’ on Sony’s console last week; it was a ballsy move, and it was entirely unprecedented. As a result, no one quite knew how it would be received.

As it turns out, it was received quite well. Exceptionally so, as a matter of fact, or so it seems anyway, as Bungie revealed on their blog that over 6 million games of Destiny- 6,461,871 to be exact- were played in this period. Over these 6 million games, there were 149,522,313 primary weapon kills, 21,782,610 secondary weapon kills, 4,002,737 heavy weapon kills, 21,687,298 super ability kills, 60,491,944 Fallen Dregs deaths. That last is the gruntiest of all enemies that you can come across in Destiny.

“Putting our Alpha out there lit a new kind of fire here at Bungie,” Bungie said. “It feels like we’ve been reborn. Putting alpha code out in the wild is always a risk; that build is ancient by our standards, riddled with content and bugs we’d never allow through to ship. In many cases, the really rough and jagged edges had been hammered smooth long ago, making it all the more difficult to see them discovered, but in just as many others, there’s still work to do, and the only way to get it done is to let you touch down in our world to tear the place wide open.”

Destiny is due out later this year on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
