With a day to go before The Last of Us Remastered hits retail stores, we decided to do some tests on how the PlayStation 4 version stacks up against last year’s PlayStation 3 release. Please note that this is just an initial test and we will have a full blown tech analysis later this week. There is probably going to be a day one patch which may improve things further.

As you can see from the GIFS below, The Last of Us Remastered features improved level of detail, high resolution textures and better  texture streaming. A feature, that is not represented in the GIFs below are the improved load time. The PS3 version had long loading times and you will be pleased to know that the Remastered version’s load times are extremely quick.

However, it comes as a surprise to us that the PS3 version holds up nicely to its PS4 counterpart. This is not to say that the PS4 version does not look amazing but for some existing owners there may be no reason for an upgrade unless you want to have access to the feature-length documentary on the making and the excellent Left Behind DLC. In our opinion, The Last of Us on the PS3 looked amazing and the PS4 version looks even better. But that should not be the only reason behind your purchase. We will have more on that in our review.

The Last of Us Remastered releases exclusively for the PlayStation 4 tomorrow in North America and on August 1st in Europe. Fore more on the game, check out its hub page here or read our review of the game here. Stay tuned for our full review of the game soon.

Note: Please note that each of the GIFs below are over 40 seconds long so make sure you give them enough time to load.
