Sony has so far been very slow with firmware updates to the PlayStation 4- while Microsoft and Nintendo have been adding promised features to their respective consoles, Sony hasn’t actually released a meaningful feature rich update at all since the console launched last November. However, one of Sony’s developers actually showed up on Reddit recently, where he discussed all the new features planned for the PS4 soon.

‘I’d say early 2015 for DLNA. MP3 and Video Players by the Holiday season (MP3 maybe sooner),’ he said, talking about the console’s stunted media capabilities.

He also talked about the PS mobile app, which, while functional, is a bit… garish. ‘There’s a redesign in the works. It should be more functional and modern (read: less cheesy blue boxes).’

Finally, he talked about PS Now, and how it will not interact with your PS+ or the entitlements you get from that- which is a highly disappointing move, if true. ‘Those rumors are wrong. Entitlements for PS3 games won’t carry over to PS Now.’

That aside, the upcoming updates planned for the PS4 sound pretty nice. Sony has already announced a major firmware update for next month that adds Blu Ray 3D playback, so it seems they are finally getting the ball rolling on this.
