Far Cry 4 Will Have Asymmetric Multiplayer

'We're really excited about it.'

Far Cry 3 was amazing, wasn’t it? Ubisoft’s 2012 open world shooter with a difference caught the imagination of players worldwide, and propelled the series from its B-list status to a premier franchise. This year’s follow up, Far Cry 4, looks to take all that was good about Far Cry 3, amplify it, and in the process, also work on fixing all that was bad about the previous game.

Take the multiplayer, for example, which in Far Cry 3 was very lacking- it can charitably be described as ‘maybe average.’ Far Cry 4, on the other hand, will be taking some innovative steps forward with its multiplayer mode, grabbing multiplayer by the scruff of its neck and then shaking it hard.

This information comes to us directly from Senior Level Designer Vincent Ouellette, who said the following in an interview with Strategy Informer:

“Yes, there will be. Nothing’s been announced in detail yet, but I can say that it’s asymmetrical so it’s very interesting. I mean like Spies Vs Mercs (from Splinter Cell), two teams with different abilities who you need to play differently. It’s actually handled by the guys at Red Storm, they know their multiplayer. I’m really excited about it. We’ll be announcing more soon.”

Ubisoft has already announced some pretty innovative ideas for Far Cry 4 multiplayer, such as co-op with players who don’t own a copy of the game (an early precursor to SharePlay, it sounds like), so I’m gonna go ahead and trust them on this one.
