The Witcher 3 Will Receive “No Downgrade”, Final Version Looks Good “No Matter the Platform”

Witcher 3

Remember that bad habit that gamers got into? The one where they think a game needs to cater to their specific wants and demands when in actuality, they contribute little to no effort in the development process? Well they’re at it again. Or are they? This one can go either way.

CD Projekt have come under fire recently after they released the latest batch of screenshots for the fantastic looking high fantasy sandbox action title, The Witcher 3. In the past, we’ve seen CD Projekt demonstrate their planned use of NVIDIA’s HairWorks in The Witcher 3 when rendering a wolf. In the latest screenshot, the wolves look noticeably less impressive, as do the SSAO and textures.

Naturally, the forums exploded into a tantrum. Fingers were pointed, console gamers were blamed, PC gamers were labeled as elitists and the world kept on turning. Then something strange happened, something very much akin to pouring water on the boiling oil. A NeoGAF member who remained anonymous spoke up and said that PR and CDP are “creating an overblown vision of a game that doesn’t exist”. After this, things just descended into chaos, for lack of a better word.

Granted, the user does say that everything should be taken with a grain of salt, but the claim is given some validity when CDP decided it was time for a statement. “Please keep in mind that the game is still in production phase. Certain things are still being worked on. The final version of the game will look better than what can be seen in the latest screenshots – no matter the platform. As you probably know, when publishing screenshots, some of them can be subjectively less appealing than others (depending on one’s opinion), that’s perfectly normal. The most important thing here is that the game will come out looking gorgeous when we are done working on it. There will be no downgrade.”
