Assassin’s Creed Unity “More Cinematic” at 30 FPS

Ubisoft also believes 60 FPS "doesn't look like the real thing".

Assassins Creed Unity

Ubisoft has been in a bit of a mess lately following the revelation that Assassin’s Creed: Unity would run at 30 FPS and 900p resolution on the Xbox One and PS4 to “avoid debates” and such.

Putting aside the resolution, the reasoning behind this 30fps cap is similar to that of the reasoning behind The Order 1886. The general idea being that 60 fps feels too fast, loose and fluid, whereas 30fps is closer to the ideal 24fps feel of cinema. The only problem is 24fps has noticeable lag, whereas a stable 30fps is preferable. Assassin’s Creed: Unity creative director Alex Amancio said, “30 was our goal, it feels more cinematic.”

World Level Design Director Nicolas Guérin told Tech Radar that, “At Ubisoft for a long time we wanted to push 60 fps. I don’t think it was a good idea because you don’t gain that much from 60 fps and it doesn’t look like the real thing. It’s a bit like The Hobbit movie, it looked really weird.”

Do you degree? Let us know in the comments. Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be out this November for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
